Basically, Metro-Scale Wireless Broadband is a network that only requires one wired connection, called a "backhaul," to connect many square miles of service area. The signal from the wired connection is then transmitted via radio waves to multiple access nodes, usually placed on utility poles, tall buildings, or street lights. These access nodes automatically communicate to one another and route the signal in the most optimal way possible. There is no expensive cable to lay, and as the service area grows more nodes can be deployed and, if needed, additional backhaul can integrated.
