Hazard Mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters. This is achieved through risk analysis, which results in information that provides a foundation for mitigation activities that reduce risk and flood insurance that protects financial investment.

Hazard Mitigation will increase the amount of your Public Assistance funding after a natural disaster. However, there are specific regulations and programs laid out in, literally, hundreds of pages of information that you must read.

Risk Analysis

To analyze your city’s risk, FEMA requires that a flood map of the area be created. This is yet another reason to geocode. Flood insurance rates are based on such a map, and it is required to be eligible for the National Flood Insurance Program.
