Geocoding

Disaster Recovery PlanningDownload Sample White Paper on Planning for Disaster Recovery

Every property and landmark owned by a city is potentially at risk of being damaged and needing assistance from FEMA.

City officials must map and identify specific locations by a process called “geocoding” which gives an unique identification number known as a “geocode” to every single geographical property and landmark, such as historical buildings, parks, statues, government offices, and schools - to name only a few.

Once this is accomplished it will allow the properties and landmarks to be detected by the Geographical Information System (GIS) used by FEMA and other government agencies.

Moreover - police, public safety, EMS, property assessors, and school boards all do work that is tied to one or many addresses. Every city department will be able to use GIS to communicate and operate more efficiently.
