If or when a natural disaster strikes your city, your state will most likely apply for funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In order to receive this funding, however, the state must estimate the damage in terms of dollars. Cities must produce city rebuilding permits and FEMA Project Worksheets to inform the state of the value of the assets to be repaired. The state then informs FEMA of the amount, and then the waiting begins. And that is only the beginning of several levels of approval. We’ve done it before, and it is a slow process, strewn with unexpected delay. The sooner your city’s rebuilding permits can be produced and your Project Worksheets completed, the sooner you will acquire the funds. This is not such an easy task in the aftermath of a hurricane or a tornado, though. You must make a plan that does not take your usual personnel and resources for granted - many city workers lose their homes and have to take care of their families. Other times, the municipal buildings are destroyed and city’s plan is ruined, losing all traces of continuity and never acheiving fulfillment. If you want your city to get the money that it is due, quickly and accurately, you have to prepare beforehand. By buiding a city Web portal that produces FEMA-approved permits, not only will your city be prepared, you will also have a system that increases your revenue around the clock, 365 days/year, even when there has not been a natural disaster.
